Island Dreams of the South Pacific

I’ve always had a passion for travel and have literally traveled the four corners of the world. And wherever I go, I seem to find inspiration for my jewellery along the way! Lately, my heart has been drawn to the islands of the South Pacific. Having visited Samoa twice in the past few years, and a few months ago the Cook Islands, I find myself captivated by this beautiful part of the world.

There’s something about those incredible shades of turquoise, aqua and deep ocean blue, set against lush tropical greens and brilliant splashes of colour. As a jewellery designer, I can’t help but notice the colours, textures and combinations that nature creates so effortlessly. Colour has always fascinated me, and it’s a theme that also runs through my book, Watermelon Blue. I love the way certain colours evoke a feeling, bring back a memory or transport us somewhere entirely different.

Travel has always been about more than just seeing somewhere new for me. Over the years, I’ve discovered treasures, sourced unusual pieces and found inspiration in markets, landscapes and the little details that make each destination unique. Those experiences inevitably find their way into my creative world, whether through a combination of gemstones, an unexpected colour pairing or a new idea for a piece of jewellery.

Samoa has certainly left its mark on me, and the Cook Islands have only fueled my desire to explore more of the South Pacific. Each island has its own personality, its own beauty and its own story to tell — and I love discovering what makes each place special. For some reason, Samoa has called me back, twice in the past 24 months and I plan on going again next year. There’s just something about it…

I’m already dreaming about where to go next. Although I’ve been to Fiji, it was many, many years ago, and feel it’s time to revisit that tropical paradise. There are so many islands still to explore, so many colours to absorb and, who knows, perhaps a few treasures to discover along the way.

After all, travel and jewellery have something in common: both are about discovery, individuality and finding beauty in unexpected places. And who knows, maybe the colours of my next island adventure will inspire a new jewellery design, a fresh perspective, or even another chapter in my colourful journey. As always, stay tuned!
